Cura Homecare shortlisted in national award for innovative approach to elderly care

We've been shortlisted as one of the UK's best start-ups at the National Home Care Awards.

“Katie Burgess, Cura’s Director of Care, said: “We’ve been voted as one of the top 20 care providers in South West England on homecare.co.uk for the last two years.”

We've been providing domiciliary care services to people in Chippenham and North Wiltshire since 2017, and have recently expanded to offer additional services designed to better support people throughout later life.

We realised that providing personal care is just one aspect of being able to help people remain independent at home, and now offer additional services including home maintenance, estate planning and even a telephone befriending service to help tackle loneliness and isolation.

By enabling customers to package these services together in a way that suits them, we hope we can become a pillar of support for anyone entering later life or caring for someone who is.

Take our home maintenance service for example. As we get older, it’s likely we will all need help maintaining our homes, whether it be the small jobs we’re no longer able to do ourselves or larger scale projects, such as installing a new accessible bathroom. Keeping on top of everything will involve liaising with different tradespeople which can be both daunting and time consuming.

With our home maintenance service we aim to deal with any job, no matter how big or small, in a simple and straightforward way. One call to the Cura Head Office, based on Sheldon Business Park in Chippenham, will see a fully qualified, DBS checked and first aid trained tradesperson take care of whatever is required. Whether that be changing a lightbulb or whole kitchen.

Any one of our services can be used individually at any time, by anyone. But we are hoping to form more meaningful relationships over the longer term – which we think benefits everyone.

Katie Burgess, our Director of Care, said: “We’ve been voted as one of the top 20 care providers in South West England on homecare.co.uk for the last two years. Our experience and commitment to supporting our customers has shown us that remaining independent at home involves much more than just personal care.

“As we get older, time becomes more precious, but families often spend a lot of that time arranging or fixing things associated with a loved one remaining independent, rather than sitting down and spending quality time together.

“We hope we can become a trusted partner through later life, taking care of the day-to-day, freeing families to spend quality time together - instead of tackling the endless list of jobs required to keep people safe and independent at home.”

“Of course, we also know not all people are lucky enough to have family and friends around them, which is why we’ve also launched our telephone befriending service to help tackle the loneliness and isolation some people face”

We will find out if we have been named start-up of the year at an awards ceremony at the National Convention Centre in Birmingham on March 17.
